Middle-Aged Moi, an introduction
Well, this is it. I thought I should start writing again since my children had the nerve to grow up and go on with their own lives. And now I find myself in this middle-aged abyss between what was once my old life, full of diapers and boo-boos and people wiping snot on the couch while I gag and make them get a cloth to wipe it up, and the stage in which I now find myself, which is the "I have three adult children and three teenagers on the precipice of adulthood" stage. And I'm wondering what on earth I'm going to do with the rest of my life. I thought that maybe I should get a job but I can't decide on anything that would fill me with the same joy that being a SAHM and homeschooler did. So I have decided to just wait and see. Maybe I will find my niche soon, maybe not. Either way, I have always loved to write, and blogs are an easy way to write as much or as little as one likes and not feel the pressure of editors and such. Plus, I get to write about my feelings and not worry about grammar, plot lines, or Oxford commas. (See what I did there? ) My PLAN is to write a bit about something every day. But we all know what they say about the best laid plans....😉
Here's a brief intro about me:
My name is Janet, I'm 48 years old and have been married to my amazing husband for 24 years. We have six kids, three boys, three girls. For the sake of privacy, I'm going to call them by the letter "H", plus their birth order numbers. The "H" stands for hooligans, which I have called them for years. So the eldest will be known as H1, or "Hooligan 1", and so on. I know that seems kind of impersonal, but I'm not sure I should put their names "out there", you know?) I may come up with more fitting names as I go, but for now they'll be numbers. I homeschooled the kids for most of their lives but they did online school for their last three years so they could get high school diplomas. We have two dogs (one ancient pug named Zeus and one ridiculously allergic-to-everything cockapoo, named Bonnie), and a cat named Sir Reginald Tadachadbrad. (Don't ask. We mainly call him Reggie, with the occasional "Sir Reginald", if he's looking particularly imperious that day.)
This blog will be an attempt to entertain you, but is mainly meant to be an encouragement to other middle-aged women who find themselves in a stage of life that is far from a familiar landscape. This unknown territory of our children growing up, our hormones doing all sorts of weird acrobatics, our bodies sagging, our relationships changing, and our way in the world uncertain. At least, that's where I find myself. I hope I can encourage you, dear sisters, and make your walk with Christ just a tad bit easier. Introduce yourself in the comments. I'm happy to "meet" you. :-)
PS- If you're in a different stage of life, a young woman, an older woman, I DO hope to write about more than just being middle-aged. We can all be an encouragement to each other at ANY stage of life. ❤

Great post. You definitely have a way with words fit to entertain and encourage. Good idea to start writing and also to see what happens. For me it felt like it was a chance occasion that put me on my current path and perhaps it was not so chance after all. We do have choice in what we pursue and when you are on a path, chance occasions can change the course. As an older woman, having gone through that time, I know I will relate. I too started a blog about that time. I have consistently been inconsistent throughout the years with it. I have now started another blog however that is for our website so my desire is to be more consistently consistent. I am looking forward to you very inspiring and entertaining book in the future. You can write that in your own time too, just so you know. Mind is still in the works.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous picture of you and a lovely introduction to your endeavour. I look forward to reading along!
